At last the court came to the rescue of 10 persons arrested by Assam Police in the suspicion of being ISI agents and who were languishing in the jail for the last nine years as the Kamrup additional session court acquitted them of all charges. The Assam Police arrested these persons from various parts of Assam in the suspicion of being ISI agents in the year 1999. These included Bilal Miyan and Abdul Mukib Choudhuri of Karimganj, Kafayatulla of Garigaon, Moulana Akram of Kashmir, Salim Ahmed Kasimi and Javed Waqar of Uttar Pradesh, Billal Miyan of Bangladesh and Md Fasiullah of Pakistan. After a prolonged hearing, the Kamrup Sessions Court on Thursday acquitted them of the charges leveled against them by the police after the Assam Police failed to produce any evidences in support of their claim. It is being alleged that the Assam Police arrest people in the name of being ISI agents only to collect source money from the Centre. After their release, the acquitted persons alleged that Assam Police Special Branch IGP Khagen Sharma had been drawing source money from the Centre for many years by framing them as ISI agents. The court however awarded five years imprisonment to Billal Miyan of Bangladesh and Fasiullah of Pakistan for illegally entering India. However, as they have already spent nine years in prison, the court allowed them to go.
