Taking stock of the situation in the college which was abysmal with no repair and new construction over the last few years due to paucity of funds, the Chief Minister directed the authorities to speed up upgradation of the girls’ and boys’ hostels, library, laboratories, college buildings, etc., with the funds which would be made available.
In a meeting attended by JB Singh, Education Commissioner and Chief Engineer of PWD and Public Health, among others, a thorough discussion was held on the improvement of the college.
The Chief Minister also did the rounds of the Industrial Training Institution here and said that he would try to manage funds to the tune of Rs 3 crore for revamping the buildings and equipment.
Gogoi, however, emphasized that more than construction of buildings, new trades and training should be introduced.
He also donated Rs 20 lakh to the Jorhat Swimming Society for building of an Olympic-style swimming pool here.
The work of the swimming pool, which is half-completed, came to a standstill due to paucity of funds.
