The function, held at the Dubai Creek Park, was attended by over 50 people including children. Apart from Dubai, a few families from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman also took part in the celebrations.
Breakfast was arranged with traditional Assamese delicacies like 'Doi', 'Chira', 'Mithoi','Til Pitha', 'Tilor laru' and 'Narikolor laru' part of which were brought all the way from Assam by Syed Faruk Ahmed.
One of the main attractions of the function was lunch served with home cooked Assamese dishes like 'Machor Tenga', 'Matir Dail', 'Muri Ghanta', 'Khorisa' along with other Assamese delicacies; the food was entirely home-cooked by a group of enthusiastic young Assamese lads ably led by Anupal Phookan and Sumon Bordoloi.
To mark the occasion, a number of innovative games and events were organized. For the first time for such a function, 'Koni Juj' (Egg fight) was organized; Sumon Bordoloi won this event. Another event introduced for the first time here was that of best dressed male & female participants in traditional Assamese costume. While the award for the best traditional costume for male was won by Syed Faruk Ahmed, its counterpart in the female category was jointly won by Mrs. Padmakshi Borah and Mrs. Parul Hazarika.
Mr. Anupal Phookan sponsored the prizes for various games and events.
