Cotton College of Guwahati swept the Higher Secondary (Science) results, 2005 as 13 students of the college occupied as many as nine of the first ten positions, barring the eighth position, which went jointly to BH College, Barpeta, Ramanuj Gupta Jr College, Cachar and Darrang College. According to the results declared by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council today, of the 14,254 candidates who had appeared in the examination, 9,647 came out successful, the pass percentage being 67.68 against 66.79 last year. Of the 9,647 successful candidates, 2,832 secured first division, 5,696 secured second division and 1,119 secured third division.
The first position went to Prarthana Majumdar of Cotton College. She secured 435 out of 500 with letters in English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. While Darsana Das of Cotton College secured the second position securing 427 marks (English, Alternative English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics), Biswajit Borah (English, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics) and Suman Paul (English, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Statistics), both of Cotton College, jointly secured the third position. The fourth position went jointly to Jayeeta Bhadra (English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology) of Ramanuj Gupta Jr College, Sandeep Chanda (English, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology) of Cotton College and Moitreyee Kalita (English, Alternative English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology) of Cotton College, the fifth position to Bahniman Rynjah (English, Chemistry, Physics and Statistics) of Cotton College, the sixth position to Rubul Ahmed (Assamese, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) of Abhayapuri College, Sushovan Podder (English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) of Ramanuj Gupta Jr College and Najim Hiquemat (English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) of Cotton College, seventh position to Himangshu Sarma (Assamese, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) of Cotton College, eighth position to Arnav Sarma (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) of BH College, Moutupsi Paul (English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology) of Ramanuj Gupta Jr College and Nilim Chandra Sarma (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) of Darrang College, ninth position to Seujee Das (English, Chemistry and Physics) of Cotton College and tenth position to Nazneen Arif (English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology) of Salt Brook Academy, Aminul Islam Khan (English, Assamese, Chemistry and Physics) of Cotton College, Gaurav Bafna (Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics and Physics) of Cotton College and Pranjal Kumar Das (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) of Cotton College.
The pass percentage of regular male candidates is 68.11 and that of female candidates is 75.28. Among the institutional private candidates, the pass percentage of male candidates is 64.49 and that of female candidates is 74.45. Among the non-institutional private candidates, the pass percentage of males is 61.18 and that of females is 62.44.
A college-wise comparative study of the results shows that Ramanuj Gupta Jr College of Cachar, which secured three positions, is next to Cotton College.
