Sanjoy Hazarika's book reading and film screening series

Hello, I am Tulika Narayan from AID (association for India's Development-www.aidindia.org). We are a development organization based in the US doing developmental work in India. I am the coordinator of a project in Assam also.

As part of our effort to increase our work in India, we want to generate awareness about issues in the north east. As a first step we are organizing a series of book reading/film screening and discussions by Sanjoy Hazarika, author of several books about the north east, including Strangers of the Mist.

Bhaona performance in Mumbai

The Assamese fraternity from Navi Mumbai and Mumbai gathered in large numbers to witness the Bhaona, the literary meaning of which is a dramatic performance. An intergral part of Assamese tradition, generally, every year after the harvesting season ends, people from one or more villages come together to organize Bhaona in the Namghar (village temple).

Assamese NRI : No Pride Of Assam Unlike Other NRI

(This news content is my personal point of view and I think its perfectly applies on so called "hi-fi assamise NRI's".)

I just want to ask one question to all those assamise people in abroad. What "great" they have done to there native place?

What I mean to say is, take example of any other NRI community be it from Punjab, TN, UP, Maharastra, etc (not to forget Bihar!!!) they have proven their existence in abroad. But its not same for our "dear akhomiya brothers and sister" out there in BIG states.

Assamese culture has strength to embrace diverse people

Unfurling the AXX flag here on the occasion of 67th Lakhimpur session of the Xabha, Borgohain said that the river Brahmaputra which is the lifeline of the Assamese civilization has witnessed assimilation of diverse culture, languages and races over the years to make a greater Assamese society. He said that everytime one assembles under the flag of the AXX, he or she realizes this truth.
