The ground was utilized by the citizen of Dispur area not only as a play ground but was an important venue for pubilc meetings, functions and special gatherings. Moreover, as a play ground it has a cricket coaching centre from which more than 30% of the players get selected for Assam team. Another aspect of concern is the risk of environmental damage that would be very disturbing if the complex is constructed at that place by cutting hundreds of matured trees. The govt. should have considered the fact that there is no open space for the need of the public. For instance, to setup an emergency medical camp in case of natural calamities, there would not be any other space available other than this one. At least 4000 odd people have made a signature campaign regarding this protest and have approached the govvernment with an appeal to withdraw the decision to construct the capital complex on this splendid Dispur's Parade Ground.

CoolEarth has also appealed to the people to protest for such actions taken by the govt.
