Handique, who portrayed the character of 'Joymoti' in the film of the same name, directed by Jyotiprasad Agarwala, had to overcome various obstacles on her way to 'act' in the first Assamese film as in those days it was beyond any thought of females acting alongside male artists.

Born and brought up in 1915, Aiedeo was taken out to Bholaguri tea estate to play the role of Joymoti by film director Jyoti Prasad. Later on, she was isolated by the society for addressing Ganadapni as Bongahor Deo. Strangely enough, Aiedeo came to enjoy the film only in 1987 although it was released in 1935.

Meanwhile, scores of people are gatecrashing her residence from early this morning to pay last homage to the actress. Golaghat Deputy Commissioner laid floral wreath on her dead body on behalf of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

A pall of gloom descended in the Assamese film industry following the news of her demise. It may be noted that she was the last of the artist from the film 'Joymoti' who was alive till today and now with her death a vacuum has created in the film society.
